Background
This workshop highlights international evidence and competencies for interprofessional collaboration in primary care. Participants will discuss cases and current approaches to improving patient care through stronger integration of public health and primary care services in Europe and beyond.
The focus will be on identifying what sustainable, inclusive, and integrated health systems could look like in Europe — systems that by design would adapt to population needs and dynamics. Key themes include competencies and task allocation, enabling access to preventive, emergency and rehabilitative services, ensuring continuity and appropriateness of care across health care settings including home care, and integrating patients’ voices and community perspectives into service design.
Through shared experiences, dialogue, and group reflection, we will explore patient pathways and needs, and opportunities for innovation through health services research. Special attention will be given to current competencies and emerging roles for doctors, public health professionals, nurses, paramedics and community health workers and other health workforce taking gendered hierarchies in health professions into account.
Through presentations, dialogue, and group reflection, we will explore:
- Competencies required by the future public health workforce to collaborate effectively across professions and with communities.
- The role of private public partnerships to strengthen service provision and delivery
- Implementation science as a key approach to redesigning care services.
By the end of the session, participants will have identified potential partners to co-develop new solutions to:
- Address service provision gaps in specific contexts.
- Strengthen continuity between primary and hospital care.
- Support innovative and inclusive workforce development.
