Pre-conference: State of the art practices in interprofessional collaboration in primary care research and practice (PRIM)

Tuesday 11 November, 09:00 – 12:30 Helsinki time
(ending with network lunch at 12:30)

Organised by

European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC)

Background

Primary health care is the health system’s central pillar. It needs to respond to people’s needs and expectations. Because these needs are increasingly complex and often cannot be solved by single professionals, there is a need for more and efficient interprofessional collaboration (IpC) within primary care teams or networks. Primary care has to have an optimal skillmix of various professionals and must use the added value of collaboration between them.

The European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC) initiated the Primary care Multi-prOfessional Researcher network (PRIMORE) project phase II in 2022. One of the aims of this project is the development of interprofessional research on the organization of primary care with a focus on young researchers. According to this aim, a mapping exercise on interprofessional collaboration in primary care research and practice has been realized to provide an overview of the experiences, barriers and facilitators and research-based evidence on this collaboration.

The mapping exercise consisted of a systematic review of the literature on interprofessional collaboration and a survey among Primary Care professional organisations about on-going research and practice.

Format

In this pre-conference preliminary results of the mapping exercise will be reported. After this, based on a number of metaphors from nature, music and theatre, discussed in sub-groups, all participants will get the opportunity to share their experiences, ideas and suggestions regarding the implementation of interprofessional collaboration in primary care research and practice. We will finish with a plenary discussion on the main findings.

Acknowledgements

The mapping exercise on interprofessional collaboration in Primary Care has been conducted by a group of young Primary Care researchers of various professional background, supervised by the Scientific board of the PRIMORE phase II project, Lorena Dini Pou del Castillo, Mehmet Akman, Frode Fadnes Jacobson, Maria van den Muijsenbergh and Diederik Aarendonk and supported by Robin Gouweloos of the EFPC secretariat. The PRIMORE phase II project received funding from the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
