Pitch presentation preparation and upload instructions
Pitch sessions last 60 minutes and includes a maximum of 5 slides.
Each presenter has 5 minutes to deliver their pitch presentation.
The remaining 20 minutes are reserved for questions and answers.
Your presentation time
You have 5 minutes maximum for your presentation. The limit is strict and must not be exceeded.
The chair will manage the timing of the session, so please plan your presentation accordingly.
Technical requirements slides
You may use a maximum of 5 slides (which includes an opening slide)
Please prepare your slides according to the following specifications:

- Landscape orientation
- use 16:9 widescreen format
- A consistent design and layout throughout your presentation
- accepted presentation formats are Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF (.pdf)
- Apple Keynote and Prezi are not supported
- avoid uncommon fonts that may not be available on the presentation computers
- use sufficient contrast between text and background
- use text that is large enough to be clearly readable
- keep slides concise and avoid overcrowding
- insert special characters using the Symbol function in your presentation software
- Whenever possible, use clear graphs and figures rather than complex tables
NOTE: Films, interactive materials and animations are not allowed.
A simple structure
Depending on your research, you may wish to structure your presentation as:
- Background / research question
- Methods
- Key findings
- Interpretation
- Conclusions / implications
Make your pitch count; you only have 5 minutes, so focus on your most important message.
- the problem or question;
- what you did;
- your most important finding or message;
- why it matters;Avoid overcrowding your slides with text or information.
Preparing your file for upload
Upload your final presentation through the conference presentation system before the deadline.
As a backup, we recommend bringing a copy of your final presentation on a Windows-compatible USB flash drive.
If you created your presentation on a Mac, please check your fonts, formatting and slide layout carefully before uploading.
In the session room
Your uploaded presentation will be available on the presentation computer in your assigned session room.
At the lectern, you will use the provided controls to move through your slides. A monitor will show the current slide and you can use the mouse to point to content on the slide.
Please note:
- personal laptops cannot be used;
- Presenter View is not supported;
- the version uploaded to the system must therefore be your final presentation.
Before you upload
- My presentation is in 16:9 widescreen format
- My file is PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF (.pdf)
- I have checked all fonts, images and graphics
- My slides are clearly readable
- My presentation fits within my allocated speaking time
- I have checked the programme for the correct session and time
- I am uploading the final version of my presentation
- I have kept a backup copy of my file
