Webinar 5 – Public health at the European level: the European elections and health

The 5th ‘Sailing to Lisbon 2024’ webinar took place on Monday 3 June.
In the context of the European Elections, it was very important to hear what the Political Groups at the European Parliament will be proposing, so we invited a representative of each of the seven Groups.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts to get feedback, participation of the Political groups did not take place.
Dulce Salzedas, a journalist with extensive experience in covering the news in the health sector, was there to moderate, and some of the key aspects of European policies were discussed

Webinar 8 – Public Health in the Lusophone World

The 8th webinar in our Sailing to Lisbon 2024 series, titled “Public Health in the Lusophone World,” took place on October 3rd and was conducted in Portuguese.
This webinar aimed at discussing cooperation in the field of public health among the Member States of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) within the framework of implementing the CPLP Strategic Plan for Health Cooperation 2023-2027. We discussed several ongoing or planned initiatives aimed at creating synergies and promoting greater collaboration among Lusophone public health institutions, services, and professionals. We also had the chance to explore the key themes and challenges expected at the Lusophone Public Health Conference in November, providing an early perspective on what to anticipate at this significant event.

Webinar 9 – Public Health in Action: From Methods to Decisions

The 9th webinar of our Sailing to Lisbon 2024 series is titled “Public Health in Action: From Methods to Decisions,” took place on the 7th of October.
This webinar allowed us to discuss how the latest advancements in epidemiologic methods and data can both support and challenge decision-making in public health.
It included an overview of potential data sources to exploit in epidemiological studies and assessments, as well as modern time series methods as a way to assess potential public health interventions and public policy. We also had the chance to reflect on how existing evidence might be used to support public health planning and decision and existing challenges.

The 10th webinar of our Sailing to Lisbon 2024 series was titled “Data and Digital Public Health” and took place on 29th of October.
Digital health is a rapidly evolving field with many questions to be discussed. In this webinar we addressed the challenges of data exchange and how that relates to Public Health use cases, as well as a significant concern over the legal and regulatory aspects. We also discussed on the need for an EU wide strategy for public health data, within the European Health Data Space.

The grand finale of our “Sailing to Lisbon 2024” webinar series, titled “Welcome to Lisbon”, took place on the 6th of November, precisely a week before the Conference.

This special webinar serves as a final and enthusiastic invitation to experience the magic of Lisbon and the much anticipated European Public Health Conference.

During this session, two of Portugal’s most prominent Public Health institutions (DGS and INSA), as well as the two national organizations that have been instrumental in planning and supporting this extraordinary event shared their insights. To ensure you are well-prepared for the week that awaits, the Scientific Chair will walk us through the Conference’s agenda, showcasing the key topics and themes that will be explored.

And some practical suggestions and activities were presented for Lisbon, so the delegates can prepare accordingly.
