Susana Guedes Pombo is Director-General and Chief Veterinary Officer for the Directorate General for Food and Veterinary, Ministry of Agriculture, Portugal, since August 2020. From 2012 to 2019 she held the position of Director of the Food and Veterinary Directorate for the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region and served as Director-General of the Directorate-General for Veterinary (DGV) in 2010 and 2011. She was Head of the Animal Identification, Registration, and Licensing Division at the DGV in 2008 and 2009. Susana Guedes Pombo holds a Master’s degree in veterinary medicine from the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), Vila Real, Portugal. She is President of the Council of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) since May 2024, after serving as WOAH Vice-President. She was appointed alternate member of the Board of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in September 2022 and alternate member of the Board of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in July 2021.
