Sophie Beau
Sophie Beau is co-founder of SOS Méditerranee, a civil sea rescue association, and general director for the French association. She holds a master degree in Anthropology and a postgraduate degree in Political Science (Paris I Sorbonne, France). She has directed social and humanitarian programmes for twenty years. She has worked as a programme manager for Médecins Sans Frontières and Médecins du Monde on numerous crisis areas in Africa, the Middle East and the Caucasus, as well as in the headquarters of these NGOs in France, in the Netherlands and in the USA. Since 2008, she has coordinated medico-social teams and accompanied the actors fighting against exclusion and solidarity - associations, local authorities and foundations - as PACA regional delegate within the National Federation of Social Reintegration Associations (FNARS), as consultant and associate director of the Prospective and Cooperation network. She is co-founder of SOS Méditerranee in May 2015 with the German captain Klaus Vogel, she is executive director of the association in France and vice-president of the European network SOS Méditerranee. She lives in Marseille.
