Karl Ekdahl
Karl Ekdahl is head of the Public Health Capacity and Communication Unit at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), where he is responsible for the Centre’s activities related to preparedness, training, capacity building and communication. He has worked for more than twenty years with communicable disease prevention at regional, national and international levels. At ECDC, he was the first expert in place at the start-up of the Centre in 2005. Since then, he has held various senior positions including acting Director. He is a specialist in infectious diseases, and prior to joining ECDC, he was the Deputy State Epidemiologist for Sweden. In 2007, he was appointed Adjunct Professor in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. He is also the former Editor-in-Chief of the high-impact scientific journal Eurosurveillance.
