Idil Hussein

Senior Planning Officer, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL)

Dr Idil Hussein works as a Senior Planning Officer at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. By training she is a public health epidemiologist, and she holds a Doctoral Degree in Population Health from the University of Helsinki. Her PhD research explored parental vaccination intentions, with a focus on human papillomavirus and influenza vaccines, as well as how expertise in vaccination is perceived. She has contributed to work on health-related issues in underserved populations, both in terms of vaccine-preventable diseases and non-communicable diseases. Dr. Hussein has research experience from diabetes, and she has contributed to the first-ever Finnish lifestyle intervention pilot study, aimed at increasing health and wellbeing in a vulnerable population. Currently, her work focuses on equity and diversity, and she works in a multinational European project focusing on decreasing the burden of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in Europe. At the core of her work is supporting health researchers from 21 European countries in building inclusive projects and advancing inclusive health research.
