Henrique Barros, MD, PhD, is the President of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER), a Full Professor of Epidemiology at the School of Medicine of the University of Porto and the President of the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, where he coordinates a WHO Collaborating Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases. He was the National Coordinator for HIV/AIDS Infection at the Portuguese Ministry of Health, Member of the Medical Sciences Scientific Committee of Science Europe, President of the Portuguese National Health Council, and Past President of the International Epidemiological Association. He coordinates the PhD programme in Global Public Health (Porto and Nova University), the Master Programme in Public Health (University of Porto) and the Master Programme in Sociology and Health. His research interests cover mainly perinatal health, infectious diseases and violence epidemiology as part of multiple national and international projects.
