Cristina Abreu Santos

With a background in European Studies and in Economics from the University of Lisbon, with specialization in Economic Policy and Planning, Cristina Abreu Santos is currently serving as a Member of the Executive Board at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, in Lisbon. The Institute main mission is to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations and health systems, through research and innovation, health observatory and epidemiological and laboratorial surveillance. Her career was mainly focused on public health institutions, including Portuguese Directorate-General of Health, supporting the National Health Authority in the preparedness and response to public health emergencies and as coordinator of the Public Health Emergencies Operations Centre. At present, she ensures national participation at EU and international fora as a member of HERA Board, alternate member of the ECDC Management Board, member of ERINHA Executive Board and co-lead of the Portuguese WHO Collaboration Centre on Nutrition and Childhood Obesity, among other collaborations in scientific networks and research projects.
