Ana Paula Martins

Minister of Health, Portugal

Ana Paula Martins has been Minister of Health since February 2024. Previously, she was president of Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon. She was deputy director of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, for the 2020-2024 period. For many years, she was also assistant professor of the Socio-Pharmacy Department at the same institution. From 2016 to 2022 she was President of the Pharmacists’ Association and from 2019 presided over the Evidence-Based Health Institute (ISBE).

From 1994 to 2006 she headed the Pharmacoepidemiology Study Centre of the National Pharmacies’ Association and was Secretary-General of the Pharmacists’ Association from 1989 to 1992. She was advisor to the Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs from 1992 to 1994. Ana Paula Martins was born in Guinea Bissau and holds a PhD in Clinical Pharmacy from the Lisbon School of Pharmacy and a master’s in Epidemiology from Nova University, Lisbon.
