The first presentation  focuses on the significant inequity in healthy life expectancy between Western and Central/Eastern EU countries, discusses the very low vaccine coverage among adults in the Central/Eastern EU countries, together with the recent history of vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. A call is made for more focus on healthy ageing and prevention as healthcare priorities.

The second presentation focuses on the actual and potential impact of Pneumococcal Conjugated Vaccines (PCV) on the epidemiology of Invasive Pneumococcal Diseases in European and in a broader worldwide context. It provides success stories for PCVs in high vaccination coverage settings. Presenting current expertise and health authority guidance on the factors to consider when choosing which of the existing vaccines to use in specific setting.
